PROOFING: IMAGE CROPPING GUIDELINES

CAMERA FORMATS

Not all camera formats fit proportionally to all print sizes. In order to produce the specific print sizes you indicate, some cropping may be necessary. Proportional cropping should be used in order to produce the desired final prints.

To be absolutely sure you are getting exactly what you want as far as cropping, we recommend you use LabPrints to submit your orders. These systems allow you to rotate, crop and edit the images yourself before submitting them to us for printing.

35mm Format

Most SLR style digital cameras have the same proportional shape as 35mm cameras. Cropping for standard print sizes from these formats affects the long side of the image. Printing a 4"x5" or 8"x 10" from these formats will result in cropping from the length of the image.

For full frame printing, proportional prints for 35mm or SLR Style Digital Cameras should be ordered such as: 4"x6", 5"x7", 8"x12", 16"x24", and 24"x36".

120 Medium Format

Medium format negatives print without significant cropping to the following sizes: 4"x5", 8"x10", 11"x14", 16"x20", and 20"x24".

Square Format

Square format is printed proportionately to square print sizes. Other standard print sizes are also available, however, significant cropping is required.
